Jaywalker Lodge stands out for many reasons, and we don’t say that to brag. The only reason we even mention it is because we believe the things we do differently are the exact things that make a real difference in saving the lives of alcoholics and addicts. We don’t say we stand out to make ourselves feel better. We love what we do and we feel great about it. But if what we do and how we do things is making a difference in the lives of people struggling to find lasting recovery, then we want to share it in hopes that more alcoholics and addicts can be helped.

The staff at Jaywalker Lodge is mostly composed of people who understand the process of successful recovery because they know it firsthand, in their own lives. Jaywalker Lodge is also firmly, unashamedly, happily rooted in the 12-Step program of recovery. The 12-Steps are our foundation, and they work. One of the keys here is that we focus intensively on the 1st-Step, which we have seen is one of the linchpins of recovery. A deeply personal and meaningful experience must be had with the 1st-Step, so we do everything we can to facilitate that experience for the men who come to us.

Beyond that, we have our own set of core beliefs that inform and influence all that goes on here — and a lot goes on here. We have a multi-disciplinary staff of addiction recovery and treatment specialists. In addition to a curriculum based heavily on the 12-Steps, we also have personalized and individualized therapy. We have an active and vibrant community of Jaywalker alumni who join us for meals, meetings, and service work. This means we get together to help the larger community, both in and out of recovery. The community around Jaywalker Lodge is something special and remarkable all by itself, but it just so happens that this community is recovering, serving, and thriving in one of the most beautiful places on Earth.

Our Colorado Community

Jaywalker Lodge stands in Carbondale, Colorado among the Rocky Mountains, a natural setting that has captivated the minds and bodies of nature lovers and adventure seekers for more than a century. We are about 30 miles from Aspen in one of the safest and most beautiful towns found anywhere. We’ve got a thriving culture around us at Jaywalker Lodge. Our culinary scene is growing rapidly and all year round, in snow or sunshine, there are tons of things to do. This community is an amazing place in every way, and starting recovery here has a special way of being inspiring. We strive to do as much for this place and this community as it does for us.

We also do as much as we can for the wonderful people in Colorado. Jaywalkers come together quite often to be of service not just to our own recovery community, but to the greater community that we’re all a part of. This kind of united service work is an incredible opportunity to shake off the shame and guilt of alcoholism and addiction. It helps us break our isolation and root our recovery in love, community, service, and togetherness. We believe that recovery means living a life full of meaning and joy, and service is a great source of both. Making the world better for others has a magical way of improving our own lives.

Exploring the Mountains

Don’t worry, we didn’t forget about the Rocky Mountains. Hiking, skiing, trekking, exploring, rock climbing, trail riding, snowboarding, kayaking, fishing, whitewater rafting — what more could you need? Anything and everything is here, and all of it is available to us in our new life in recovery. We’re right here in the heart of one of the most sought-after outdoor recreation spots on the entire planet, and we do not waste it or take it for granted.

Expeditions are part of our weekly curriculum at Jaywalker Lodge. Just like those famous adventure stories tell us, we believe that expeditions and experiences in the natural world are an ideal way to grow and improve as a person and become your best self. We also recognize that the challenges that help us, inspire us, motivate us, and push us to be our best are different for everyone. We want to support and encourage you to find the challenges that speak to you most in your own recovery journey, and then do our best to facilitate that experience. In a way of speaking, we help you identify the mountains you need to summit, and then we do everything we can to be the best sherpa you’d ever want.

It’s more than an awesome metaphor for us at Jaywalker Lodge — it’s real. Recovery itself is a journey and an adventure, and hiking up even a small hill can be a huge victory. It doesn’t matter how small the first step is, it only matters that we take that step. And recovery is a big step. It’s a journey within, a true expedition, and the result is a life more free and meaningful than anything we’ve ever known before. Incorporating nature expeditions and adventures into our program is great practice for the exploration and challenges of life in general. It’s also a wonderful way to begin the journey of recovery.

If you are an alcoholic or addict, you are no stranger to challenges and mistakes. But hard times don’t only fall on alcoholics and addicts. Failure and suffering are part of life, and life doesn’t change the rules when we find recovery. As long as we stay actively engaged with the 12-Step program of recovery, diligently working the 12-Steps, attending meetings, and being of service, we are doing all we can to safeguard our recovery. Life will still have ups and downs, challenges, victories, and changing seasons. Life is a journey, and so is our own recovery. At Jaywalker Lodge, we like to prepare ourselves for these realities by taking such journeys head-on, together. We get out there and go on real nature expeditions to learn the ropes and practice giving it our best, dealing with the stumbles in healthy ways and sharing both our missteps and our victories. If you are ready to begin your journey in recovery, the real adventure of a lifetime, Jaywalker Lodge is ready to help. Call us now at (866) 529-9255.
