Recovery as Adventure

It’s not an overstatement to say that for alcoholics and addicts, getting into recovery is the adventure of a lifetime! At Jaywalker Lodge, we fully believe this to be true. We see it every day: men having the time of their lives achieving things they once thought were impossible, finding more joy than they ever imagined, jumping hurdles, overcoming obstacles, and growing into the men they’ve always wanted to be. What better adventure could there possibly be? In recovery, every day is a brand-new chance to be the hero of your own story, to help others overcome their troubles, and to summit impossible peaks both literally and figuratively.

As professional sherpas on this lifelong adventure of recovery, we at Jaywalker Lodge feel confident in discussing what an adventure recovery truly is. Who would know better than your guide up to the mountaintop? We’re here for you every step of the way on this exciting journey.

You’re the Hero

In the adventure of recovery, you’re the hero — we’re just here to help when you need us. And like any good adventure, your story will include ups and downs, heroic trials, incredible victories, and journeys to places you never even dreamed of before. All while you learn how to grow, improve, put others before yourself, and make the world a better place on your way to becoming the man you’ve always wanted to be!

At Jaywalker Lodge, we believe that each man is the hero of his own recovery story. We just do our part to facilitate the best possible start to the story. But exactly like any hero’s journey, recovery asks that we become selfless and focus on improving ourselves while helping others. The journey of 12-Step recovery is all about how we shape ourselves to help others.

Overcoming Adversity

Every good story has some trouble in it. The hero never has completely smooth sailing the entire time. Just ask Odysseus! Remember that calm seas do not make a skilled sailor — Odysseus will tell you that, too. We need the ups and downs of life to teach us, to show us where we still need work, and to allow us to help people by sharing our experiences of how we overcame obstacles. If we never went through any hard times, we’d never be able to help anyone get through their own tribulations. So when we take the hero’s journey of recovery, even our tribulations are blessings in disguise.

The lessons we learn and the ways we grow through the rough patches make us infinitely stronger and more helpful to others. There will be much success, but there will be trials, too — and you won’t be alone for any of it. The 12-Step program of recovery gives us straightforward ways to make the best of any situation, no matter how tough, and it also ensures that we all walk the road together so we never struggle alone.

Journeying to Parts Unknown

Recovery is as much the journey of a lifetime as it is the adventure of a lifetime. And like any good journey, it begins with a single step. Well, Twelve Steps to be exact! All we have to do is keep taking those same 12-Steps continuously. They will lead us to places in our lives that we could never have imagined before. Most people who walk the 12-Step path of recovery find themselves living a life beyond their wildest dreams. This is because recovery is not about paying for our past in addiction, but about the promise of a bright future. Recovery is about living a life full of meaning, purpose, joy, and abundance. Recovery is about living a heroic life, each of us in our own way, going places and doing things that were impossible for us in our disease.

Reaching Impossible Peaks

Speaking of impossible, the impossible happens every day in recovery. Every day in the 12-Step fellowship, men find themselves miraculously transformed simply by working the 12-Step program. Every day, men change their lives in ways previously thought to be impossible. There are simply no limits in recovery. We can become and accomplish anything we want for as long as we remain firmly rooted in the 12-Step program. We can totally change our entire lives or we can learn how to perfect the lives we already love. The choice is ours. Whatever summits we wish to reach, they can be surmounted in recovery as long as we keep our footing in the Twelve Steps.

The Adventure Continues

Recovery is most definitely an adventure — one that can continue for our whole lifetime, provided that we remain actively engaged with the 12-Step process. The adventure never has to end! We can continue to learn and grow throughout our entire lives. There is no limit to growth, self-improvement, or joy. These things can and will remain steadfast companions on the road of happy destiny as long as we remain purposefully walking the Twelve Steps. There are already so many of us alcoholics and addicts who are experiencing this incredible journey, and we know that there is plenty of room for any adventurers looking for freedom and recovery from the disease.

Recovery is the adventure of a lifetime, and it’s your turn to experience the magic! Jaywalker Lodge believes that each of us can become the hero of our own recovery journey as long as we remain honest, open-minded, and willing to work the Twelve Steps. The Steps are a course of spiritual action designed to produce the necessary psychic change and vital spiritual experience that can bring about freedom and recovery from alcoholism and addiction. The experience is anything but boring, we promise! It’s a lot more like living out our epic journey, as we grow, overcome trials, help people, and learn how to make the world a better place. If you are struggling with alcoholism and addiction or having difficulty maintaining recovery and you’re ready for your adventure to begin, Jaywalker Lodge is here to help you start off in epic fashion.
