Jaywalker Lodge’s programs last a long time compared to stays at other treatment centers. Our multi-phased journey of healing can last anywhere from six months to a year. Many ask why our programs last for that long while some treatment centers keep clients for a maximum of three weeks. At Jaywalker, we believe that the length of our programs provides us with our most valuable resource: time. The length of our program allows time for our clients to stabilize, heal, and plan for their future in recovery outside of treatment.
The Length of Treatment at Jaywalker
We offer our programs in multiple phases at Jaywalker Lodge, starting with The Landing and ending with our outpatient program. The Landing, our introductory program lasts between one and three weeks depending on each client’s individual needs. Our stage one and stage two programs, The Lodge and Solutions, are both 90-day treatment programs. Clients can participate in one or both of the programs, depending on their needs. Finally, our integrated outpatient program lasts 90 days as well, allowing our clients access to further services outside of residential treatment.
Time to End the Cycle
The biggest reason treatment lasts for so long at Jaywalker is because it takes time to end the cycle of addiction on every level. Addiction is a disease that can’t be battled in a matter of weeks. Your client’s entire brain chemistry has changed as a result of their addiction. Their dopamine receptors need time to reset. Their body needs to learn how to live without substances, and their mind needs to learn how to recondition those habits that led them here.
Post-acute withdrawal symptoms (PAWS) can still persist well after a period of detox. Furthermore, your clients will still experience cravings long after their drug of choice has left their system. These feelings will come in waves and often strike at unexpected times. That’s a major part of why so many people are prone to relapse. Taking the time to work through cravings and symptoms, lean on a support network, and process emotions in real-time works better than a quick detox and speedy re-entry into the world outside treatment.
Learning the Life Skills Needed to Survive
In a longer program, our clients have more time to learn skills that allow them to live a more fulfilling life. These are skills that can’t be learned in a single day. Establishing habits, learning skills, and applying them to real-life scenarios is something that must be mastered. At Jaywalker Lodge, your client will learn a lot about themself and the world. They learn to make their bed every day, but also how to practice mindfulness and hold themselves accountable. The time allowed in a longer treatment program allows our residents to really take to heart these skills that will help them in the long term.
Learning 12-Step Philosophy
Our entire program is structured around the 12 steps. While there are opportunities to attend these programs outside of treatment, Jaywalker allows our clients to fully focus on engaging 12-step philosophy through journaling and discussion. The length of the treatment allows our clients to learn about this way of thinking without distraction.
Clients have the time to reflect on how the 12 steps can be applied to their own lives and struggles. This depth of study allows them to engage fully and take each step in stride. There aren’t any outside pressures to quickly go through the motions. They are able to take the steps when they are ready.
Getting to the Core Issues
On the mental health side of things, more time also allows our clients to process and understand their own mental health needs. All clients receive a thorough mental health evaluation which helps us tailor our care and programming to fit each client’s individual needs. By having the time and resources devoted to mental health, your client can explore what’s hiding beneath the surface that could contribute to their addiction or what might be holding them back from recovery. Instead of entering treatment and discovering superficial truths about themselves, our clients can take the time they need to acknowledge their deeper issues, process, reflect, and then find solutions.
Planning for Their Future
Time also gives clients the ability to plan for their future. Once they’ve had their breakthroughs and overcome their setbacks, they can start thinking about their life outside of treatment. Time for reflection lets clients think fully about what they want out of life after treatment. They can take this time to set goals and make plans about conquering challenges they’ll need to face like overcoming legal issues or fixing financial problems. This lets our clients leave treatment knowing that for them, anything is possible.
There are endless benefits of long-term treatment for your client. The most valuable resource provided by longer programs is time. Having a program that lasts ninety days instead of three weeks allows your client to fully develop the skills they need to battle their addiction. They have time to heal, make friends, and conquer the parts of themselves that might be holding them back from living a fulfilling life. We offer multi-phase programs at Jaywalker Lodge that allow our clients the full experience of treatment. Whether they’re entering as a person new to treatment or re-entering after experiencing a relapse, the added time we offer our clients sets them on the right track. If your client needs time for proper care, then Jaywalker might be right for them.
