Golf:

Nestled at the base of M. Sopris, less than a mile away, River Valley Ranch Golf Club has a diverse layout that stretches from the rolling valley floor to the banks of the Crystal River. The natural contour ad wetlands were fully utilized to create a challenging and scenic golf course. Clients can take in breathtaking views of the surrounding snow-capped mountains. Although it is important to have some form of exercise in treatment, not every exercise is appropriate for everyone.

Playing golf provides the key benefits that are associated with exercise, but also offers an element of relaxation that may not be available in other forms of exercise. The gentle movements are easier for individuals who may have damaged the physical body due to substance abuse.

Biking

Mountain Biking:

Designated a Gold-Level Ride Center by the International Mountain Bicycling Association, the Roaring Fork Valley provides an incredible breadth of experiences for clients seeking beauty and exhilaration with more than 300 miles of high quality singletrack to explore. The Roaring Fork Valley offers incredibly convenient and connected access between the five communities with a variety of trail types, overall trail mileage, quality of trail experiences, destination best practices, and local services. Mountain Biking can continue long after a client leaves a treatment program. Continuity is important, so many clients find that they want to continue biking after treatment is over. Healthy, fulfilling hobbies are the perfect way to stay on track and continue with recovery for a lifetime.

Rock Climbing:

We offer rock climbing as an experiential therapy activity that can help clients strengthen their bodies, toughen their minds and give a new way to cope with stress instead of relying on alcohol or drug use. They learn to push themselves to the top of the climb. Clients gain a greater level of confidence every time they strive to challenge themselves. Located 45 minutes from Carbondale, Rifle Mountain Park offers the best limestone sport climbing in North America.  Our guides help client’s focus on transitions and moving efficiently through terrain with an appropriate progression suitable for their ability.

Fishing:

Carbondale lies in the heart of some of the finest flyfishing in Colorado, sitting at the confluence of the Roaring
fork and Crystal Rivers, and only a 15-minute drive to both the Colorado and Frying Pan Rivers. Each offer excellent pockets of water, great riffles, and nice deep runs and holes that fish well throughout the year and open to the public for fishing. Clients experience positive effects on their mind and mental state, while enhancing attention span and concentration.

Hiking:

In terms of something-for-everyone appeal, no outdoor activity can match hiking. And nowhere does that ring truer than in the Roaring Fork Valley, the epitome of a hiker’s paradise with a system of trails for all abilities. Routes range from flat, paved saunters to multiday camping trips that require huffing over four mountain passes. Outdoor activities like hiking are proven to help clients develop self-awareness and self-esteem. The scenery through fields of wildflowers, across rushing streams, or deep into a dense forest will stay with clients forever and each week our team provides endless options.
