mentalMental Health First Aid is a public education program that helps participants learn about mental illness in the hopes of de-stigmatizing mental illness, and learn what various mental disorders look like.  Some of the disorders that will be discussed include depression, anxiety and substance abuse disorders.  Participants who take this 8-hour class will learn the 5-step action plan that will give them the resources to help peers, colleagues, friends, and family connect with the appropriate professionals.  This program was developed for the general population by the National Council for Community Behavioral Healthcare, the Maryland Department of Health and Mental Hygiene, and the Missouri Department of Mental Health.

Janet DeMars, MS, CHES, LADC, will be teaching this 1-credit class starting Thursday, September 12th at the Lappala Center campus of Colorado Mountain College (CMC) in Carbondale, Colorado.  Class times are 5:15pm – 7:20pm in room 205.  Register today at CMC in Carbondale.
