On May 10th 2016, Lois Porcelain celebrated 26 years of sobriety. Lois is undoubtedly one of the greatest human beings I have ever met in my life. Yes, of course, an amazing therapist with an ability to connect with people that is rare in this world, but without question one of the kindest, most compassionate people I have ever encountered. Lois helped me in a time of tribulation in my life and has done so for thousands of men and women throughout her lifetime, not because that is what she does for her occupation, but because that is who Lois is. The great American poet Robert Frost once said, “My object in living is to unite my avocation and my vocation as my two eyes make one in sight.” I am always reminded of Lois when I read these words.
Jaywalker Lodge is a very special place and as far as I am concerned Lois is one of the cornerstones of Jaywalker Lodge. It brings me great pleasure to write this short tribute to a person who looms large in my world and in the world of so many others who have travelled the road of addiction and recovery. Lois speaks the truth and she speaks it from her heart, without any judgement or harshness, but with humility and grace. So Congratulations to you Lois and I thank you. You have impacted me tremendously and I carry that with me everywhere I go as I know so many others do!
