At Jaywalker Lodge, we have an exclusive and specific clientele that we help with treatment for alcoholism and addiction. That special group is men. We treat men of all ages and from all walks of life. Anyone can be affected by alcoholism and addiction — men and women of any age, lifestyle, or background can fall prey to this insidious disease. So, why do we treat only men? What are the reasons behind this choice, and what are the benefits? Keep reading to learn more.

We Understand Men

At Jaywalker Lodge, we specialize in helping men find lasting freedom and recovery from alcoholism and addiction. It doesn’t matter where you come from or what your backstory is. If you’re a man between the ages of 18-100, we can help you recover from the disease. Period.

It’s true that the disease of alcoholism and addiction is no respecter of persons. It can affect anyone, anywhere, at any time. Why do we focus on treating men? Part of the reason is that we were founded by a man who saw the vicious cycle of relapse particularly affecting men. And in much the same way as we are encouraged in recovery to get a sponsor who is the same gender as ourselves, he saw an opportunity to help other men. As a man who struggled himself with relapse and found the keys to lasting recovery, who could better relate to the problems and issues of other men while presenting the solution that had worked for him?

We are also well aware that men are well-trained by society to speak up less about their struggles. Men are taught to bottle it up and keep it inside. When men have problems or issues, they are told that the manly thing to do is keep quiet. But instead of helping us, this societal silence is killing men faster than anything else. Frankly, men need the help, especially because they have a harder time asking for it. Closed mouths don’t get fed, and too many starving men have been trained to keep their mouths closed tight. So, here Jaywalker Lodge stands, ready to help men find lasting recovery and live the happy, whole lives they deserve.

We Focus on Men

Treating only men has many benefits for those we treat — far too many to list here. But in general terms, this specificity allows for greater focus on the part of our treatment professionals and on the part of the men who come to us. Our clinical and professional staff is able to focus their practices on dealing exclusively with men, allowing for targeted treatment methods that have greater accuracy and efficacy. Because we are dealing with a specific population, we can hone in on the specific issues and challenges they face, leading to more productive methods and solutions.

As for the men who come stay with us, they too are given more focus by the environment they find here. Our men are free to fully be themselves at Jaywalker Lodge without fear of embarrassment or posturing or any of the other distractions that typically come from co-ed environments. On top of that, the environment at the Lodge itself is one that encourages intimacy, community, and camaraderie among men. This focused environment is great practice for lasting recovery, as our men are able to meet male alumni who can sponsor them. They are also able to learn how to be open and honest with other men — a new skill that can potentially save lives all on its own. We have already mentioned how hard it is for most men to ask for help. Jaywalker Lodge is built to break down those walls and help men learn how to express themselves to other men and ask for the support they so desperately need.

We Create a Community

Having an environment exclusively populated by men facilitates the kinds of relationships that are necessary to lasting, long-term recovery from alcoholism and addiction. As men in recovery, we will be asked to forge a relationship with a male sponsor. This man will hear all about our lives as he takes us through the Twelve Steps, and we will come to trust and rely upon his advice and guidance. We will also be asked to fellowship with other men in recovery, share our experiences with each other, and become friends as we walk the road of happy destiny. This intimacy among men is necessary for the successful working of the 12-Step program, and that’s exactly why we start practicing early at Jaywalker Lodge.

Jaywalker Lodge is uniquely designed and organized to facilitate the kinds of lifesaving bonds between men that we need in order to be successful in recovery. No one recovers alone — we need each other. But men often have a hard time opening up to other men or asking them for help. At Jaywalker Lodge, we get to practice overcoming those hang-ups. We have a vital and vibrant community of alumni that has sprung up around the Lodge, providing a wealth of information, experience, and support to all the men who come here.

Jaywalker Lodge treats only men for a lot of specific and well-thought-out reasons. We know what we’re doing, and we’re doing it for you. Our aim is to give you the absolute best start to your recovery journey, because we believe your life is worth it.

Jaywalker Lodge is the perfect environment for men to find lasting, long-term recovery. We do everything here with your best interests in mind. Our primary goal is to give you the best possible launch pad for a beautiful life in recovery. We can make a difference in your recovery journey, and that’s exactly what we aim to do. We believe in creating an environment where men are free to be themselves and encouraged to open up and form bonds with another. This environment has given rise to a thriving community of alumni who give freely of themselves to all who come to stay at Jaywalker Lodge.
