One of the most rewarding service projects that I have been a part of since being here at the Jaywalker Solutions program has been volunteering at the Colorado Animal Rescue Shelter. Last we were asked if a few of us would be willing to help out on a project that Jaywalker has been a part of for the last 4 years. Myself and two other guys were picked up bright and early on Saturday morning and we set out for the Eagle County Fairgrounds where a large dog show was to be held. Upon arrival we learned that those in charge of the show allowed CARE to run the whole parking operation for one of the largest dog shows in the area. Spectators for the show paid a parking fee with all proceeds going directly toward helping wounded and traumatized animals. We assisted one of the CARE staff members in directing parking and collecting fees from the spectators, most of whom were more than willing to contribute once they learned that the money was for a good cause. Over the course of the weekend we were able to assist CARE in collecting a substantial amount of money for the organization while having a great time doing it. It felt great to give back to an organization that does so much good in the local community and takes in so many animals who otherwise may not have had a chance. Being given the opportunity to be of service to such a great organization and project is truly a blessing and it is something I will always fondly remember.
