I won’t tire of writing about the heroin epidemic that is sweeping our nation. An infectious social and medical issue that is ignored will continue to thrive and will remain virulent and contagious. This epidemic needs to be eradicated. The death of Philip Seymour Hoffman brings to light the darkness of addiction while the NY Times article (see link below) tells a similar personal story of a previously unknown small town mom, a small town girl and a small town tragedy. The girl and her mom are not famous, but the story is reminiscent of heroin’s notoriety. It is suspected that this young girl’s death was the seventh fatal heroin overdose in this small town (population: 13,000) during the last eight months.
Our voices need to ring of recovery. Our voices need to ring of hope. There is a way out of despair and darkness. It is called recovery. Speak out, speak up.
