Make plans to be at Two Rivers Park in Glenwood Springs this Saturday, July 13th from 4:00 PM until 7:00 PM to enjoy FREE music, BBQ, and family actives while learning more about the Thompson Divide and the area’s impact to our local communities.

The mission of the Thompson Divide Coalition is to secure permanent protection from oil and gas development on Federal Lands in the Thompson Divide area including Thompson Creek and four Mile Creek Watersheds, as well as portions of the Muddy Basin, Coal Basin, and the headwaters of East Divide Creek. The Thompson Divide covers 221,500 acres of Federal Land in several counties including Pitkin County (88,100 acres) and Garfield county (43,500 acres). Collectively, hunting, fishing, ranching, and recreation in the Thompson Divide area support nearly 300 jobs and $ 30 Million in annual economic output for our local communities.

Senator Michael Bennet has introduced The Thompson Divide Withdrawal and Protection Act in the United States Senate. Bennet’s bill offers a middle-ground solution to the ongoing conversation about the Thompson divide’s future.

One of the primary draws to Jaywalker Lodge and the Roaring Fork Valley are the exceptional outdoor recreation opportunities and the unmatched Quality of Life to be found in our serene surroundings. With Gold Medal fishing rivers and legendary populations of big game the Thompson divide area is a sportsman’s dream. A big part of the Jaywalker experience is Mountain biking, hiking and skiing in one of the last great swaths of undeveloped mid-elevation forest land in Colorado. The Thompson Creek Finns are a well-known sport-climbing destination and Ski Sunlight is an alpine resort, near Glenwood Springs. The outdoor experience is a indispensable element of our Recovery here in the Thompson Divide Area and one important lesson we learn is to “Leave things in better shape than we find them” I believe this rings true with preserving our pristine valley for future generations to enjoy.

From bouldering in the Finns to hunting in what is considered one of the best hunting units in the state, the Thompson Divide promotes our outdoor spirit, preserves our quality of life, and in turn helps create long-term, sustainable jobs and a strengthened economy for local communities.
