Stanley Celebrates 4 Years

Our very own southern gentleman and scratch golfer, Stanley Jones, celebrated 4 years of sobriety yesterday! Stanley and I sat down for coffee yesterday to reminisce about his last 4 years in sobriety and how his life has completely turned around. Stanley is currently in his last semester at Colorado Mountain College and will be graduating in May with a bachelors degree in Business Administration. He has even been invited to give the commencement speech for all other graduates! Stanley, thank you for leading by example and being proof of the promises of sobriety! Solutions

“Unity is strength… when there is teamwork and collaboration, wonderful things can be achieved.” – Mattie Stepanek-Poet I have been member of the SOLUTIONS team since 2007 and am pleased to talk about our newest venture. SOLUTIONS has expanded our program into two phases, moved buildings, added staff and built a more robust curriculum. We have continued our partnership with Colorado Mountain College (CMC) to offer men in recovery a path to return to academics. Phase One of SOLUTIONS is now housed on 734 Main Street. The men are loving the new “digs” with its restaurant style kitchen, dining area which becomes board game central at night, the man-cave lounge area and multifaceted meeting/study area. Phase One is a 90-day program, with a Stage II recovery model. It is designed for men who are ready to assume personal accountability in a supportive environment. We encourage reintegration into the workplace or…

Sober Semester Completed

Today marked the completion of Jaywalker U Fall 2014 Semester. During this last semester one student earned dual credits by having his Colorado Mountain College (CMC) credits count towards his high school diploma.  Other students who arrived mid semester were taking classes through Grand Canyon University (GCU) because GCU has  online classes starting every Monday year-round, while other students participated in traditional classes at CMC.  To celebrate the completion of this semester, JWU spent the day with Johann Aberger celebrating, enjoying life, laughing and dancing.  Yes, dancing. The group decided to take what we thought was a Yoga class called Nia at True Nature this morning.  We were hesitantly surprised when we walked into the room and no one had Yoga mats, except us.  JWU students and staff are always prepared.  The description of the class said that it was appropriate for all levels.  What could be better?  It also…

Sober Semester

The Fall 2014 semester at Colorado Mountain College has come to an end here at Jaywalker.  What has been demonstrated each semester here at Jaywalker is that recovery and academic success go hand-in-hand.  Self-esteem improves dramatically with each successful credit earned and the joy of living is enhanced.  The men at Jaywalker are learning that they can be productive members of a college campus while living a sober life.   Congratulations on another great semester and we wish you the best of luck for next semester! Strong Interest Inventory

Sometimes the Friday activity at Jaywalker U finds the students outside playing and sometimes it finds us inside learning.  During the morning activity on Friday October 17th and 24th, Lisa Runck and Jen Brennan, College Counselors from the Spring Valley campus of Colorado Mountain College, joined our students.  On the 17th, Jen and Lisa presented the Strong Interest Inventory assessment which is the world’s most widely respected career planning tool.  After their presentation about this tool and the six themes of interest (realistic, investigative, artistic, social , enterprising, and conventional) , all of the JWU students sat in front of their computer screens and completed the 200+ question assessment.  Jen and Lisa came back on Friday, October 24th to meet with the students both as a group and individually to talk about their results.  This assessment was beneficial because not all of the students have a sense of their life’s…
