Pat S Celebrates 6

Pat & Ben sober life

My first time meeting Pat Shaffer was as a client in the Lodge when Pat was volunteering. Since I already liked MTN biking, and he led many MTN bike outings as a volunteer the friendship came easy. In fact on one of our first rides he had to pull cactus out of my butt on a ride, that’s the kind of intimacy among men we talk about here at Jaywalker. Pat is around my age and we talked a lot about life. I remember being on expedition in Twin lakes and having a particularly tough time dealing with my impending divorce. Pat and I sat in the van one day after a ride and talked about it for almost an hour. His calm demeanor helped me immensely. We are both hockey fans and as a client I was allowed to bike to his house to watch the hockey playoffs. 12…

2015 Twin Lakes Expedition

Biking adventure sober retreat

Earlier this week, I had the opportunity to volunteer for the annual Twin Lakes expedition; an expedition that I participated in last year as a client. This year’s trip would prove to be more rewarding than last year’s. As a client in my first 30 days of sobriety, I had trouble finding the fun in the camping environment of Twin Lakes. The clients became more open with one another, and faced their fears during certain activities like white water rafting….

Sober Semester

The Fall 2014 semester at Colorado Mountain College has come to an end here at Jaywalker.  What has been demonstrated each semester here at Jaywalker is that recovery and academic success go hand-in-hand.  Self-esteem improves dramatically with each successful credit earned and the joy of living is enhanced.  The men at Jaywalker are learning that they can be productive members of a college campus while living a sober life.   Congratulations on another great semester and we wish you the best of luck for next semester! Bob Ferguson Celebrated 22 years

My favorite way to describe Bobby is simple; “He’s 52 going on 22.” Anyone that has stepped on the ice to play hockey, gone hiking, played lacrosse, just name any outdoor activity, sat in a meeting, or had any interaction with him knows that his energy level is high and insanely off the charts. Bobby uses his energy to passionately live in each area of his life. He has coined such phrases as “Serious Joy” and “Extreme Recovery” for Jaywalker Lodge which, in my eyes, is the most accurate way to describe how he approaches his own life in sobriety.  The dedication in which Bobby has made to his own sobriety, has rewarded him many great gifts in life, however he still lives every moment as if it’s the most important.  Bobby strives to constantly grow by working with others, whether he’s working with sponsees or colleagues in the treatment…
