ADHD Strategies

Procrastination is one of the chronic problems with those who suffer from ADHD. Psych Central associate editor, Margarita Tartakovsky, talked to some experts who also struggle with adult ADHD and reported on some strategies and solutions for dealing with this procrastination. Here is what she found: Set mini goals, rather than long-term goals Use technology and apps Focus on the end result and how good you will feel once you accomplish something Work on tasks for just a short period of time Utilize momentum: when things are going good, keep going My personal strategy: use the fun enjoyable activities (such as mountain biking) as a reward for accomplishing the tasks I don’t want to do Janet DeMars Program Director Jaywalker U

What are your strengths that will enhance your academic choices and propel you into the career that fits your strengths and feeds your spirit?  Each student at Jaywalker U will take the StrengthsQuest Finder and discover their top five strengths and how to apply those strengths to life today and in the future.  This concept is a different and exciting way to look at what already exists within an individual rather than focusing on a person’s weaknesses and trying to fix them or alter them.  By utilizing the inherent strengths a person possesses they are able to make decisions and build confidence by knowing themselves and then build on these assets in order to achieve academic, career and personal excellence. JWU Recognition Ceremony

The Coordinator of Jaywalker U, Donnie Hagenbart, took the lead last Friday at the Jaywalker U Recognition Ceremony by welcoming the Lodge clients and then telling his story of transformation which became the impetus for transformational workshops at Jaywalker U.  While pictures of workshops and spring breaks scrolled across the screen, Donnie inspired us to become willing to be our best, the basis of what he has learned from Transformational Coach, Johann Aberger.  Next, the Jaywalker U students who have been with Johann throughout the semester talked about their own experiences and what they have learned about themselves. Finally, Johann spent some time motivating, teaching, asking, showing, and encouraging everyone to reach for their highest good and their highest potential. Janet DeMars Program Director Jaywalker U

JWU Thanksgiving Eve

Today the Jaywalker U students are preparing for Thanksgiving Dinner tomorrow. Half of the students have made it home for the holidays while the other half will be spending Thanksgiving with one of the students families. The students are responsible for bringing all of the sides for Thanksgiving Dinner. So far we have: mashed potatoes, sweet potato marshmallow mash, sweet corn soufflé, cornbread, and green bean casserole. Chef Brian’s cooking classes are really coming in handy this holiday season! We are in the spirit of Thanksgiving and are remembering everything that we are thankful for this year. Donnie Hagenbart Program Coordinator Jaywalker U
