“…to see a fellowship grow up about you, to have a host a friends, this is an experience you must not miss” Alcoholics Anonymous Page 89It is no secret that this is one of my favorite passages in the Big Book of Alcoholics Anonymous, it epitomizes everything that the Jaywalker Alumni Program represents. This past weekend I had the honor of taking 20 Jaywalker alums to Moab, UT for our annual spring trip. Past Jaywalker clients from Florida, Denver, Boulder, and the Roaring Fork Valley all met up in Moab for a weekend of mountain biking, dirt biking, four wheeling, golf, and of course fellowship. Big shout out to alumnus Andrew P for organizing, prepping, and cooking all of our wonderful meals, thanks for all you do brother. John S.

“Life will take on new meaning. To watch people recover, to see them help others, to watch loneliness vanish, to see a fellowship grow up about you, to have a host of friends—this is an experience you must not miss. We know you will not want to miss it. Frequent contact with newcomers and with each other is the bright spot of our lives.” Page 89, Big Book of Alcoholics Anonymous When we are in the throes of our disease we strive for community, for a sense of belonging. At Jaywalker Lodge I have the privilege of introducing our clients to the community of successful alums that populate the Roaring Fork Valley. Through outdoor adventure, long drives, campfires and snow caves one begins to see the host of friends growing up about them, it is truly an experience not to be missed.John S
Jaywalker Lodge clients and staff embarked on a winter expedition today to the 10th Mountain Division Huts to explore, ski, snowshoe, and 12 Step Study. Jaywalker expeditions are designed to expose our men to a lifestyle change and healthy travel with men in recovery. This hut trip is one of many our clients experience during their stay at Jaywalker, but continue with the Jaywalker Alumni Program. We involve our alumni on trip with clients to share their experience, strength, and hope. Over the next few days our men will get a taste of what we do in life after treatment. This is a part of our recovery.
It would take a special team to win the Howard Clark Award at the Harmony Golf Outing on Monday June 29th, and the Jaywalker participants, Dirk Eldredge, John Schneier, Pat Shaffer and Jim Soda were up to that challenge. Granted, the trophy was for most average score at the Lake Valley Golf Club, however it was the biggest trophy by far. There were 40 footers being drained by Dirk, precision fairway placement by Soda, stellar short game from Shaffer and of course, the booming drives of Schneier. All in all a complete success. Maybe next year a little more strategy to win the thing, as long as we don’t sacrifice the fun.

What did you do this weekend because you are sober? John Schneier Director of Outreach Services Jaywalker Lodge
Last Saturday our very own, Kim Nuzzo, celebrated 29 years of sobriety. Kim has been a Chemical Dependency Counselor for the last 20 years and has been a great example of what long term sobriety can look like. Kim, thank you for everything you do and here is just a small list of the lives you’ve touched here: Kim has been a part of my journey since the beginning and I feel so grateful that he’s my friend. – Brendon Kerton “Nothing impacts a still-suffering alcoholic more than hearing the language of the heart from another alcoholic in recovery” – AA Conference 2001. Kim – Congratulations on 29 years of sharing your experience, strength and hope. – Jacquie Wheeler Kim Nuzzo’s talent as a clinician is only surpassed by his talent as a photographer of, “Homies” figurines. These photographs truly express the inner workings of what must surely be a most…

The 7th Annual Jaywalker Serenity Scramble was a great success! Thanks to Kortney Hartman, the sponsors, players, and everyone who made it possible. All good charity golf tournaments have plenty of winners and no losers, however, at this year’s tournament one loser stood out, in a sun dress. Now, let me explain. The Serenity Scramble is a big deal and no one takes it more seriously than Jaywalker Lodge’s Director of Marketing, John Schneier. This would be a surprise to all because he has a handicap of 74…on the front nine. What John lacks in skill he makes up for in monetary incentives to local professional golfers: Stanley Jones, Briton Bingham, and AJ Joiner. With this all-star line-up, John challenged Bob Ferguson, Founder/Director/Cross-Dresser and his team of washed up lacrosse players to a friendly “Loser-wears-a-sundress-to-community-meeting” wager. In a week no one will remember who won the Serenity Scramble but Bobby’s…
Jaywalker’s Director of Admissions Pat Shaffer is all set to tie the knot in July, so we took off to Long Boat Key, Florida for a few solid days of bachelor action. While the trip was filled with a full dose of hanging at the beach, tennis, and kicking back, all the excitement happened while shark fishing with Captain Gary. It was a legendary morning on the fishing boat and that left Captain Gary, who has been guiding for 20 years, calling the other fishing guides saying, “You’re never gonna believe this…” To get the details you’ll have to ask Pat next time you see him. I know we’ll be talking about it forever, saying “Remember at Pat’s Bachelor party”. Congratulations Pat! Mike Goerne Director of Operations Jaywalker Lodge
