4 Feet

After a near record setting drought in January and most of February, most of us thought winter was over. Mother nature reminded us that winter was in fact alive and well by dropping four feet of snow on us in the last 7 days. Happy Shredding! Chester Turns 4

I first met Chester the day that he walked into Jaywalker Lodge. I was a client at the time and immediately sized up the new kid. Just another Texas boy out of his element in the Rocky Mountains was my initial assessment. The next week I found myself skiing with Chester at Snowmass. I wanted to ski the expert terrain on Hanging Valley Headwall and was able to convince the new-to-snow Chester that he would be fine up there. I told him I’d stay with him and help him down. Within 5 minutes of dropping in I had lost the guy. The snow was good, and I still hadn’t quite grasped the idea of other-centered behavior, so I rationalized that Chester could take care of himself. When I loaded onto the bus at the end of the day, already in the back sat a fuming Chester. Apparently that had been…

Ski Day with Friends From Texas

Jaywalker Lodge is pleased to welcome the men of Gaston House, Sober Living in Dallas, Texas to The Roaring Fork Valley for a day of shredding and fellowship. We will meet up with the Gaston House boys on Monday Morning at Snowmass, where a group of our Alumni will serve as local guides for skiers and snowboarders. At noon, we’ll all meet at the top of Sneaky’s for a group photo to commemorate this historic occasion followed by lunch. More turns in the afternoon before heading back to Carbondale for one of Chef Brian’s fabulous dinners. We’ll finish off the day with a 12-step meeting for all those who wish to check in. Considering the massive snowfall we’ve received of late and the encouraging snow forecast, our visitors from Texas should be in for an awesome treat. With Gratitude, Mark Kloster Alumni Coordinator

JWU Ski Day

As the school week comes to an end, the Jaywalker U students hit the slopes. After a stressful last week of school before finals it was time to have some fun. It was a good reminder that in order to have fun we must work hard. For many of the students this will be their first time entering finals week sober. Sobriety opens up doors that we never thought were possible, until now. Good luck next week guys! Donnie Hagenbart Program Coordinator Jaywalker U

Mostly epic and high of 7

Temperatures hovered in the single digits under a bright cold sky, but our spirits were soaring atop a foot of fresh powder at Snowmass Mountain today. Jaywalker alumni, staff and friends rallied at the top of Big Burn for a few carefree turns together following 24 hours of steady snow dumps in the Western Rockies. For my part, I trailed the pack and found myself carving cautious turns in the deep snow and among the evergreens. At what point, officially, did I become so much older and so much slower than these guys? Who cares… I felt awesome, and aware of how great it is just to be among them. Joy, abundance, and meaning? Yeah, this was a great day, and what more can we ask for than that? Bobby F. – Founder and CEO, Jaywalker Lodge

Opening Day

This weekend Aspen Snowmass ski area opened with over 600 acres of ski-able terrain and several inches of fresh snow that had accumulated consistently during the week leading up to the much-anticipated event. We were in the lift line 45 minutes before the first lift started spinning. That was ample time to whip out the camp stove and prepare sausage and eggs in line. As I scanned the faces in the crowd, I found several groups of fellow Jaywalker Alumni fidgeting nervously in line, waiting for the rope to drop. The skiing was superb and my legs were not ready for the powder day. By 1pm we were heading back to the parking lot, filled with gratitude for such an incredible opening day shared with friends. Here’s to a good season. Adam Mink Landing Tech Supervisor Jaywalker Lodge

It’s SNOW time

When it’s time to play, the Rocky Mountains teach us the value of “serious fun” and what it really means to “live in the moment.” Jaywalkers proximity to some of the worlds greatest skiing and snowboarding is one of the primary reasons I chose to undertake treatment in the Roaring Fork Valley. I may have came for the skiing, but I stayed for the incredible Recovery experience and community that Jaywalker provides. The Mountain based expeditions are an integral component in all of Jaywalker’s programs and during the winter months we strap on the snowboards and Skis and head to Aspen-Snowmass to shred the mountain. Our clients are challenged to improve not only mentally and spiritually but, physically, as well. This year we have had abundant early snowfall and Aspen Mountain will open early this weekend and Snowmass will open daily beginning November 23rd. Below I have listed the on-mountain…
