St. George Alumni Trip

Over the past weekend I was lucky enough to attend the Jaywalker Alumni trip to St George, Utah.  To anyone that has never attended the alumni trips, I would highly recommend it.  Not only was I able to get away from the rain and snow of this Colorado spring, but was able to reconnect with many good friends I have not seen in years after my departure from Carbondale.  I was reminded of the true meaning of friendship and brotherhood in sobriety after seeing everyone again.  There was a good amount of Jaywalkers I had not met before the trip and had an amazing time getting to know them as well!  I moved to Boulder, CO several years ago and had almost forgotten how awesome the group of guys at Jaywalker are, and how amazing Carbondale is.  It is so comforting knowing that we can accomplish anything in the world,…

Chutes, Steaks, and Sobriety

Last week a few lucky employees and IOP Clients went to Moab for the first expedition of the year. Lenny B also celebrated his 64th birthday with a dinner out at the Sunset Grill, and his 7th jump. Lenny has helped so many men to achieve lasting sobriety and celebrating him with the current IOP clients was memorable. The focal point of any IOP expedition is golf, hiking, and skydiving. The guys had a beautiful sunny day to “enjoy” the view from high above Moab. Stanley, Dave, and myself are all IOP grads. The opportunity to spend a few days with the guys was a great way to give back and share our experience with them. Thank you Lenny for all you do, Peyton Ward Alumni Coordinator

The Impact of Aftercare and Alumni

When I went to treatment I never considered the idea that alumni, or a sense of community was going to be a large part of my recovery.  It was suggested to me the first time I went to treatment, however, the haze that I was in prevented me from truly understanding that people that stick together stay sober, or that the treatment center I went to was going to represent something.  That was one of the main reasons that I went back to that center to pick up my 5 year chip at the weekly alumni meeting. Going back to the Wednesday night aftercare meeting was important, as it was a nice mix of therapy and AA, and picking up 5 years was significant as well.  What I did not account for was the meeting after the meeting, where we had a chance to greet the new clients to treatment. …

Wesley Celebrates 1 Year

I first met Wesley when he got to Jaywalker last year. He had just completed La Hacienda and appeared to “have come all the way in and sat all the way down”. In his short time here in our community Wesley has sponsored numerous men, and become a very active member of our alumni community. He currently works at the Lodge as a Technician. Wesley is a great athlete and has truly taken up the Jaywalker way of life. Congrats Wesley! Peyton Ward Alumni Coordinator

Bobby Celebrates 24

Happy 24th Birthday to our Founder and friend, Bobby Ferguson! Bobby has inspired us all through his visionary approach to life in sobriety. He is a fantastic husband to his beautiful bride, Andi, and father to his two overachieving and,” oh so kind children, Harry and Calli!” Your amazing family and the creation of Jaywalker Lodge would not have been possible, if not for your 24 years of passionate commitment to the program of AA! Bobby’s recovery is truly a great example of the fact that, “recovery is a promise of your future, not a consequence of your past.” All of us at Jaywalker Lodge thank you for your passionate commitment to the fact that all things are possible for each of us in recovery. Your vision and commitment to create and build Jaywalker Lodge into one of the finest providers of care in the country, is something each of…

Peyton Celebrates 3

On Tuesday, our very own, Peyton Ward celebrated 3 yrs of continuous sobriety! Peyton came to Jaywalker Lodge in the winter of 2013. He had a lot work on and he went about doing just that. In the 3 short years Peyton has been in our community he has gone from client, to tech, to alumni coordinator. He has also gone from addict to Ironman completing his first full Ironman last August. Peyton is a colleague and a good personal friend. I’m very proud of him and I hope you all join me in extending him a huge congratulations on his 3 years on continuous recovery!
